Annual Water Main Replacement Program

Kansas City’s Water Main Replacement Program is breathing new life into the City’s 2,800 miles of water mains, 600 of which are more than 100 years old. In 2012, the City implemented this annual Water Main Replacement Program to replace break-prone or obsolete water mains, improve water service, enhance fire protection and reduce water main breaks. Each year, the City reconstructs 1 percent, or 28 miles, of water mains.

Since the Program’s inception, TREKK has been involved with more than 20 water main replacement projects in neighborhoods across the City. We have replaced more than 400,000 linear feet of water main as either a prime or sub-consultant. Our services include everything from survey and utility coordination to preliminary and final design services.

To date, the City has seen a more than 40 percent reduction in water main breaks thanks to this Program.

In April 2017, the City celebrated its 100th mile of water main replaced along a portion designed by TREKK.
