North Oak Trafficway Design-Build
North Oak Trafficway is a major north-south connector in Kansas City’s fast-growing Northland region. This roadway is home to dozens of businesses and neighborhoods and is vital to the Northland economy.
As part of a design-build team, TREKK is leading design efforts to reconstruct nearly 1 mile of North Oak Trafficway from the North Kansas City limits to North Indianola Drive, as well as sidewalk additions extending north from Indianola Drive. Currently under construction, this fast-paced project includes pavement replacement, the addition of curb and gutter, and erosion control. All road users were taken into consideration with the addition of bus stop sidewalk pads and a shared use bike-pedestrian facility that will connect to other pedestrian facilities in the area.
TREKK also provided surveying services, using a combination of traditional topographic survey and mobile LiDAR. By using mobile LiDAR, we were able to safely and efficiently gather survey data, which was then supplemented by traditional land survey.
We also coordinated with Kansas City’s Water Services Department to replace two water mains within the project limits.
Coordination with affected agencies, business owners and residents has been critical to the project’s success. The team is overcoming challenges including connecting to an existing transmission main, a busy utility corridor, and working within the limits of right of way for roadway construction and phasing.
